It was getting bitterly cold well before December. Apples are at their best during this season, so I decided to visit Nagano Prefecture, Japan’s apple country. My first stop was a popular shop called “Apple Village.” We arrived early but there was already a long line. As soon as the doors opened, the most popular varieties flew off the shelves. I managed to get my hands on some, but the bill was a whopping 20,000 yen! That’s enough to buy 40 cups of coffee at Komeda. Just kidding. After that, I visited a few local farms. Buying directly from the farmers was way cheaper and the quality was unbeatable. These were truly the ultimate apples. One of the farmers reminded me of my aunt, and I can’t wait to see her on New Year’s Eve.
Until then, I’ll be enjoying these ultimate apples.
